PHE Testing Facility

A dedicated car park at Doncaster Sheffield Airport has become the latest site for a drive-through coronavirus testing facility as part of the Government’s UK-wide drive to increase testing for thousands more NHS staff and other key workers.

The site, operated by the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC), is part of a rapidly expanding network of testing centres across the UK, operating on an appointment-only basis for NHS staff As one of the 27 testing sites opened to date, the network of new ‘lighthouse’ labs and field-testing sites will provide thousands more PCR swab tests used to identify the presence of the virus in critical key workers, beginning with NHS frontline staff.  Those who test negative for coronavirus can return to work as soon as possible, and those who test positive are able to self-isolate and recover.

The DHSC operated testing centre is offering self-administered tests and is managed in partnership with Serco.  The outdoor test centre and supporting infrastructure is separated from existing buildings at Doncaster Sheffield Airport and independent of ongoing operational activity at the airport.  NHS Staff and key workers who have received an invitation to test will have a dedicated entry and exit approach to the centre and away from airport activity.
