Our Airspace is being modernised
Doncaster Sheffield Airport is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) that we have been consulting upon over the last three years with the assistance of our aviation consultants, Cyrrus Limited.
The CAA has approved the ACP that will see the introduction of Area Navigation (RNAV) Approach and Departure procedures (IAPs and SIDs); this approval also included the proposed additional volume of Controlled Airspace (CTA 13) as a Class E combined Transponder Mandatory Zone (TMZ) and Radio Mandatory Zone (RMZ).
The new airspace and procedures were designed to meet modern Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) criteria in keeping with the UK’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy. The project team successfully optimised the procedures seeking to minimise the impact of noise on communities where possible. As part of the Future Airspace Strategy Implementation (North) (FASI(N)), we have worked closely with Air Traffic Control Services Limited (ATCSL), NATS En-route Limited (NERL) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to ensure the proposals also met the satisfaction of Air Traffic Management (ATM) stakeholders. The new procedures are due to be implemented on 27 February 2020.
We would like to extend our thanks to all those who participated in the consultation and engagement activities associated with this successful project and we would welcome your feedback on the implementation over the coming months.
Finally, we would like to thank the Innovation and Networks Executives Agency (INEA) for the EU funding made available that made this project viable.
