Yorkshire representatives head to Europe in a bid to bring investment to the region

Representatives from Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield and the Sheffield City Region LEP Investment team have headed to MRO Europe in a bid to bring investment back to the region.

The annual Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) event brings together airlines, MROs, suppliers, OEMs, regulators, lessors, and industry experts to explore and define the aviation maintenance industry.

Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “We are keen to develop MRO activity at the airport and see this as a create opportunity to both strengthen existing relationships and develop new ones.

“Enhanced MRO activity would bring investment and create skilled jobs in the region and act as a key enabler to help attract new based aircraft operators and scheduled passenger and cargo services to the Sheffield City Region.

“We are in a position to offer highly competitive commercial terms and an efficient, uncongested airfield in a fantastic location serving Northern and Central England.”

There are great development opportunities for onsite new build projects and existing hangar stock.

The region already has significant strength in the Aerospace sector with a range of world leading companies within the sector calling the region home including Boeing, Rolls Royce, ATI Allvac and Tata Steel. Doncaster Sheffield Airport already houses the UK’s only Cessna Citation Service Centre and the Advanced Manufacturing Park is delivering leading research through the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and Castings Technology International and TWI’s Yorkshire Technology Centre.

Rachel Clark, from the LEP said: “The LEP recognise MRO as a key sector for development across the region.

“We have already shown great strength in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering in our region and a very skilled regional workforce.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to indentify new opportunities to which would be a real benefit to the region.

The airport has Enterprise Zone status which will be a real catalyst for growth across the borough and the Sheffield City Region. This will help the airport expand, entice new industry to the area, and achieve my aims of more housing and ultimately more jobs.
