Sheffield Steelers players pay ‘flying’ visit to DoncasterSeptember 25, 2014
Elite Play-off winners, Sheffield Steelers, paid a ‘flying’ visit to Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield ahead of their 3-2 victory against Belfast Giants.
The Steelers players, who are hoping to shoot for the skies this season, visited sponsors Doncaster Sheffield Airport who are supporting the ice hockey club for the 2014/15 season.
Chris Harcombe, head of aviation development, at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We were delighted to welcome the players to the airport to cement our relationship with them.
“Our sponsorship of the Steelers will raise the profile of all the destinations we now have available at the airport and we are excited about helping the club enjoy more national success in the future.
“We are sure that ice hockey fans will make the most of our Wizz Air routes to Poland, where the sport is extremely popular, and the LinksAir flights to Ireland.
“The new Belfast route from Doncaster will provide fans with easier access to Northern Ireland and vice-versa helping more supporters to attend key games.
“Steelers fans are known nationally for giving their team fantastic backing at home and away games, so we are sure these flights will be of interest.”
Steelers fans and additional clubs supporters now have direct access to Northern Ireland for English Ice Hockey League games against Belfast Giants.
Mike O’Conner, from the Sheffield Steelers said: “We are pleased to have the airport on board as sponsors and will work closely with them over the season.
“The flight to Belfast is great news for us and for ice hockey fans as it makes getting to and from those games against the giants that bit easier.”
