More than 200 pets take flight in South YorkshireOctober 21, 2013
Doncaster is proving a hit with dogs, cats and other animals, as more than ever are leaving from and landing at the South Yorkshire based airport.
The airport is on target to import and export more than 220 cats and dogs in 2013 and have even flown in a parrot!
Transport and airfreight business Anglo World Cargo carries out the import and export of domestic pets in conjunction with the airport under the DEFRA/Animal Health Pets Travel Scheme. Doncaster Sheffield Airport is one of only six UK airports to have this allowance.
Steve Gill, Managing Director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “Once again the import and export of pets has risen significantly on the previous year. Anglo World Cargo does a fantastic job and has brought everything from horses for the St Leger annual race meeting to Nemo the goldfish from Jersey and now a parrot from Malaga!
Anglo World Cargo, based at the airport, is rivalling some of the biggest and most popular pet reception centres in the UK and provides a personal delivery service which many other airports do not.
The company has delivered treasured pets to Edinburgh, Newcastle, Wales, London, Oxford and even as far south as Torquay and Devon so far this year.
Gary Winterman, managing director of Anglo World Cargo said: “Our pet service in conjunction with Air Bridge International has really taken off. We now collect animals from 12 countries across the globe including Cyprus, Jersey, Alicante, Corfu, Gran Canaria, Malaga, Majorca and Tenerife.
“Our team recently visited Paphos to meet the British Forces and other agents in the area and we now see an influx of pets every Wednesday night on the Paphos flight.
“The pet passport scheme is very popular with the armed forces base in Paphos for servicemen/ women and with ex pats who use the services to go backwards and forwards to holiday homes in Tenerife.
“Many people don’t realize that they can take their pets on holiday with them through the passport scheme without the worry of quarantine as long as the passport is up to date.
“Pet passports can be obtained through a vet who will advise which vaccinations are needed. We can put pets on almost every route from Doncaster and look forward to seeing more of our furry and feathered friends over the next few months."
