Millers Wizz to Poznan from Doncaster Sheffield AirportJuly 15, 2016
Rotherham United FC have flown out to Poland for a pre-season tour, flying out of Doncaster Sheffield Airport with Wizz Air.
The pre-season tour will see the Millers playing two games against Miedz Legnica and Gornik Zabrze in Opalenica, just outside of Poznan over a week long stay as part of preparation for the new Championship season. A number of fans are expected to travel to take in the games and enjoy the wider attractions of Poznan and surrounding area.
Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said; “It is great to see that Rotherham United and their fans are supporting their local airport.
“The airport is now much more accessible to people traveling from Rotherham, thanks to the opening of the Great Yorkshire Way, the link road from junction 3 off the M18, making journeys from Rotherham to the airport less than 25 minutes.
“We wish the team a successful tour in Poland and hope to see Rotherham fans using the airport for their travels again in the near future.”
The team are flying to Poznań, which is one of the oldest cities in Poland. Poznan boasts a renowned nightlife, with many night clubs, music venues, concert halls and café clubs. It also houses many historical attractions in its centre and has excellent transport links to explore the quieter surrounding countryside.
The city's Old Town district is a thriving hub of activity at any time of the day with the combination of international business travellers and the city's huge student population creating a distinctive vibe quite independent of tourism.
Paul Douglas, Chief Operating Officer at Rotherham United said: “We are delighted that we could fly out of Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Poznan. It is fantastic that we can fly from our local airport making the journey to Poland a quick and easy one.
“The team are looking forward to continuing their pre-season preparations in Poland and are relishing the challenge of facing overseas opposition.
“We hope to see a number of our supporters join us in Poland on our trip ahead of the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign.”
