High flying fundraising for children’s charityAugust 28, 2014
The day, organised by Thomson crew, was to boost their fundraising efforts for The Children’s Hospital Charity.
The crew nominated The Children’s Hospital Charity as their local charity and have so far raised £15,466 towards a goal of £25,000.
Alex Bagley from Thomson said: “We were delighted that the team at the airport donated £100 to get us off the ground on our special fundraising day.
“We want to raise £25,000 to sponsor a room in Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s as part of the Make it Better appeal to build a new wing which is currently being built.
“This is a fantastic charity which helps to make a difference at our regional children’s hospital and we’ve been bowled over by our customers’ response to our fundraising efforts.
“The charity gets 25 percent of monies raised by our onboard collections and we’ve held a number of other activities with many more to come.”
Theo the Bear, the hospital mascot, greeted holiday makers at the teams fundraising cake stall and mini Theo Bears were sold on the day.
“The money raised will help to boost our total so far and we are looking forward to our next event when three of our crew are set to take part in a skydive for the charity.
“Huge thanks go out to all of our customers for helping us to help this super cause.”
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is one of four dedicated Children’s Trust’s in the UK and provides specialist care for children from across the country.
Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We were pleased to be able to help Thomson with their fundraising. It is great that they have chosen to support a local charity which makes a difference to so many families across our region.”
The money raised for the new bedroom is vital work of The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Make it Better appeal which aims to raise £10million regionally by 2016. The Make it Better appeal will transform the Children’s Hospital, creating the best possible environment, delivering world class facilities to match the world class expertise already provided, helping young patients get better more quickly.
Emma Dove, Corporate Fundraiser at the Children’s Hospital Charity said “We’re really grateful to Thomson Airways for their fundraising efforts. The money they are raising for an en suite bedroom really will make a difference to the lives of our young patients and their families. Many thanks to the Thomson crew for their support!”
