DSA Fire Crew hand over C2C cheque to The Children’s Hospital Charity

15th October 2018

After smashing their £1,000 target, 10 days ahead of the challenge, nine firefighters from Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) raised a grand total of £2,150 for The Children’s Hospital Charity when they took part in a demanding two-day coast to coast cycling (C2C) challenge.

The plucky riders presented Alison Riley, Corporate Partnerships Officer of The Children’s Hospital Charity with the cheque. Alison said: “We can’t thank the firefighting team enough for all their efforts during the coast to coast challenge, they did a great job and smashed the target! The amount raised will go a really long way, so thank you to all who donated.”

On the 22nd September, the intrepid cyclists began their 131-mile route at Morecambe Bay, before tackling the width of the country, across the Yorkshire Dales, before passing through the North Yorkshire Moors and the precipitous descents of Sutton Bank, finishing in Scarborough on day two.

Firefighter, Martin Laing, whose daughter receives treatment at the hospital, said: “The Children’s Hospital Charity is charity that is especially close to my family and to have doubled our target is great. The coast to coast challenge was ruthless and far more gruelling than we had anticipated but handing over the cheque made it all worthwhile. Well done to the lads who took part and thank you to The Children’s Hospital Charity for all that you do.”

DSA will be giving one lucky supporter return flights for two people to any one of its Flybe destinations. These include Alicante, Jersey, Amsterdam, Belfast, Faro, Malaga and many more. The winner will be contacted in due course.
