Blades are flying high from Doncaster Sheffield AirportJuly 15, 2016
Sheffield United got off to the best possible start for their pre-season training camp in Spain when they flew out of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
The club jetted off from the Yorkshire airport with FlyBe to Alicante for some warm weather training at the state-of-the-art La Manga complex as well as playing a friendly game against Spanish opposition. A number of fans were expected to travel out to take in the game and soak up the sun as part of a relaxing break.
The club and fans flew on one of the Flybe routes introduced earlier this year from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to top destinations across Europe including Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Malaga, Faro, Newquay, Jersey and Alicante itself.
Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We were delighted to welcome Sheffield United to Doncaster Sheffield Airport again further to their successful kit launch here a few weeks ago. It’s great to see them supporting their local airport and we wish the team all the best for the new season.”
Thanks to the opening of the Great Yorkshire Way, the motorway link road from Junction 3 of the M18, the journey from Sheffield to Doncaster Airport is now even quicker at just over 25 minutes.
Dave McCarthy, operations director at Sheffield United FC, said: “We were really pleased to be able to fly locally, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is so conveniently placed for us and has made this trip to Alicante hassle free for us to do.
“The team are looking forward to continuing their pre-season training and testing themselves against local opposition. It’s fantastic as well that so many fans are able to easily join us for this trip
