Airport Friends provide a £3000 fundraising boost for Yorkshire Air AmbulanceMarch 2, 2015
Friends of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (FODSA) have raised £3,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The organisation, which supports and promotes the work of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, raised the funds through attendance at local galas, social events and meetings, and collections held at the Airport.
A cheque presentation was held at the Airport and it brings the FODSA’s total amount of fundraising to £6,000 over the last two years.
FODSA was established in February 2005 following on from the FLY Finningley campaign, with the aim to promote Doncaster Sheffield Airport through encouraging its preservation, development and improvement.
The group also help to inform public opinion by providing advice and information about the airport, the airlines that use it and services available from it.
Paul Armitage, FODSA Events Co-ordinator, said: “The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an incredibly worthwhile charity and we are delighted to be able to help support them and the invaluable service they provide.
“All the members of FODSA have a real enthusiasm for aviation so the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was an obvious choice when we were looking for a charity to fundraise for.”
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a lifesaving rapid response emergency service to five million people across Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance Helicopter flies seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motor ways, but also rural and isolated locations.
Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “The work that the FODSA do is remarkable and it’s a fantastic achievement by them to have raised £6,000 in two years.
“On behalf of the Airport, I’d like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication.”
Mark Perry, Yorkshire Air Ambulance Regional Fundraiser for South Yorkshire, said: “We are very grateful to everyone at FODSA for choosing to fundraise for our charity.
“We need to raise £9990 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s Air Ambulances maintained and in the air. The generosity that we receive is the life blood of the charity and without it we would not be able to provide the service that we are so proud of.
“On behalf of everyone at Yorkshire Air Ambulance I would like to express our gratitude to FODSA and the local community for their donation and hope they continue to support the charity in the future.”
