- Airline to target transatlantic market routing Yorkshire based passengers through Dublin
- Flights from £24.99 now available for booking on aerlingus.com
Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Stobart Air, today launched the first flight on its new route from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to Dublin, Ireland.
The addition of the Doncaster Sheffield to Dublin route brings to 26 the number of routes served by Aer Lingus Regional for the summer season, and follows the recent introduction of the Newquay to Dublin route and will be followed by Birmingham to Shannon next month.
The new route will operate five times weekly with fares from £24.99 one-way including taxes and charges.
Yorkshire passengers flying to Dublin will be able to connect to Aer Lingus’s transatlantic services to New York, Boston, Chicago, and Toronto. Dublin Airport offers U.S. bound passengers immigration and customs preclearance services, meaning that there are no border checks upon arrival in the United States, thereby avoiding potentially long queuing times.
Dublin and Shannon are the only airports in Europe to offer this service.
All flights to and from Doncaster Sheffield will operate from Aer Lingus’ hub at Dublin Airport’s new Terminal 2.
This summer Aer Lingus Regional will operate 640 flights per week across 27 routes in Ireland, the UK and France.
Boarding the inaugural flight today, Ronan Whitty, Head of Revenue Management at Stobart Air, said: “We are delighted to add Doncaster Sheffield to Dublin to the Aer Lingus Regional schedule and we are looking forward to welcoming the first passengers on board today’s inaugural flight”.
“The new route means that Aer Lingus Regional now serves 20 key destinations across the UK; Ireland and France, and reflects the ongoing success of our franchise partnership with Aer Lingus.
“We are also particularly excited to be able to offer our customers based in South Yorkshire an easy, convenient and great value way to connect to Aer Lingus’s transatlantic services to the US and Canada via Dublin. This will save customers hours of travel time and queueing in US airports by availing of US customs and border pre clearance facilities in Dublin Airport prior to boarding."
Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: "We are thrilled to welcome passengers on this inaugural Aer Lingus flight to Dublin.
"This new route opens up North America and Canada to Yorkshire passengers and is a welcome boost to both business and leisure travellers.
"It is fantastic to be launching such a significant new route in our tenth birthday year."
